I’ve got hot sauce in my bag. No, really, I actually do. Being a native San Diegan, I eat a lot of Mexican food, so it’s safe to say that ‘Taco Tuesday’ is a weekly occurrence.
Living so close to the ocean means I also have the luxury of getting fresh fish tacos.
As the weather cools, we often walk to dinner down by the bay. One of my favorite places to get fish tacos is a little fish shack right on the docks in Point Loma. The menu is written in chalk and changes daily based on what the local boats are bringing in.
The fish doesn’t get any fresher, in fact, locals often tout, ‘the fish slept in the ocean last night’. Although the fish is outstanding, I’m obsessed with adding hot sauce to my tacos, so I often carry hot sauce in my purse, car and yes, I’ve been known to bring it with me on a cruise ship.

I love the selection of El Yucateco® Hot Sauces, as the flavors enhance my fresh meal. I can also whip up an easy flavorful beer Michelada cocktail while out at the fish hut! (recipe below)
El Yucateco®’s ingredients come from Field to Bottle. There are also no artificial colors, but it has the same great taste that makes it the King of Flavor since 1968.
On my most recent fish taco quest, my husband and I ordered fresh bigeye tuna, fried cod, swordfish and octopus tacos. I was pretty excited to have my own private stash of El Yucateco® hot sauces with. Although all of the flavor options are great, I had brought El Yucateco® Green Chile Habanero, El Yucateco® Red Chile Habanero and El Yucateco® XXX Hot Kutbil-ik to add to my fish feast.
As patrons were clamoring for hot sauces at other tables, I was able to sit back and generously sauce up my fresh fish tacos with El Yucateco®.
A fun beer-cocktail I like to make ‘on the go’ while having Mexican food is called a ‘Michelada‘. A traditional Michelada is a beverage prepared made with a light beer, lime juice, and assorted sauces, spices, and peppers.
I love to use the flavorful and zesty El Yucateco® Red Chile Habanero in my Michaelada, and best of all, I can make my own concoction right at my favorite bayfront taco restaurant!
You will need (for 2):
- 2 Plastic Cups
- 2 Tablespoons Yucateco® Red Chile Habanero (1 tablespoon per beer)
- Sliced Limes – almost all fish taco places have cut fresh limes! I have been known to pack my own.
- 2 Light Beers (Mexican, or any variety)
- 1/2 Cup Ice per drink
How to Prepare:
Pour the beer into a plastic cup, put in 1 tablespoon of El Yucateco® Red Chile Habanero and squeeze in the juice of at least one whole lime. Mix really well until the drink turns a pale orange color. Add 1/2 cup of ice. Enjoy!
This is a true Southern California beer cocktail that we often enjoy on hot days with Mexican food. The spicy rich flavor of the pairs well with the fresh lime juice and light refreshing light beer. I do add ice because no one likes warm beer!
Try packing your own field to bottle El Yucateco® hot sauce on your next trip out and elevate your meals to a bolder level!
I found my personal hot sauce stash of El Yucateco® at my local Target store.
All done! Yum!
