Hi, I’m Meg aka Bored Mom. First let me say, I’m not actually bored. I’m a busy Californian Mom with many balls in the air at any given time. I work as web developer, property manager and I have a young teen who is aspiring to be a golfer and future bio-chemist. Despite being incredibly busy, I do often find myself bored with routine. I despise routine and I hate rigidity. Sure routine is safe and predictable, and probably efficient, but it’s so much more FUN to color outside the lines and learn what’s out there (good or bad).
I also have an entirely different life going on inside my noggin’. In my dream state, I live in a beautiful light and bright two-story restored ranch home on a 1,000-acre lavender farm. I only eat beautiful, healthy, organic food. I have a huge La Cornue CornuFé stove and I can have something magnificent on every burner at any given moment. I dress comfortably, yet stylishly, and always have interesting artisan fair-trade jewelry on. My teen has neat hair and rides her glossy hunter-hack horse (also with a neat mane) around my organic fruit orchard.
However, in reality, I’m like most women. Right this very minute, I am probably wearing yoga pants that have seen better days and I’m fairly certain that’s dried toothpaste at the bottom of my shirt. Damn. My hair is almost always in a ponytail because I just don’t have the time for a blow-out, nor the internal motivation. Seriously, who even has time for a blow-out? I work hard and I expect those around me to also work hard. There is always the lava flow of laundry, errands to run and bills to pay. To unwind, I watch cooking shows, travel shows and have a sick fascination with the ‘Real Housewives’. When the Housewives loudly complain about not having someone to bring them a cold Perrier, I yell at them through the T.V. Geez, who do they think they are? Then… I secretly agree that it WOULD be nice to have someone bring me a cold Perrier too. With fresh lime.
My real life and dream life often collide and combust into bursts of interesting projects, food and boondoggles. Therefore, this site is really a time-stamp of things that have brought fun and uniqueness into my life, and I hope that my hits and misses add something to your lives.
I’m a huge plant-based diet cheerleader (actually, I’ve been tapping my foot for 20 years on the sidelines waiting for y’all to catch up) and am SO EXCITED to see that vegetarian diets are now HERE TO STAY! The industry has grown, new creative products are coming out at fever pitch, and eating for the our health (and the health of our planet) is now easier than ever.
Also, to be clear this site is not just for Moms. It’s for foodies, people who love to entertain, travel, pet lovers, crafty arty types and others who also hate routine.
