After a long cold wet winter, many of us are seeking the sun for Spring Break season! Here’s some tips for keeping your little ones naturally safe if you’re traveling to warmer tropical beach climates for your vacation.

Hydration and Hats
Children are typically not great at asking for water if they are thirsty, especially in a fun new environment. Make sure to encourage your babies and toddlers to keep drinking every 30 minutes. Dehydration can lead to tummy troubles, headaches and even sunstroke.
Younger babies should use other forms of sun protection. If your baby is 6 months or older, liberally use sunscreen. Also, avoid exposing your baby to the sun during peak hours — generally 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — and dress your baby in protective clothing, a hat with a brim is very important!
- Choose a formula that’s specifically for children and waterproof (even if your little one won’t be getting wet).
- To prevent rashes, check the ingredients for titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, hypoallergenic ingredients that sit on top of the skin rather than absorbing into it.
Warm climates are enjoyable, but they also often attract insects like mosquitoes and biting flies. Many big box store brand bug sprays have harsh chemicals that are not baby safe, like DEET. I recommend using a baby/toddler friendly version by Bella B. I was first introduced to the Bella B. line of products at the Natural Products Expo West event in Anaheim.
The Bella B Buzzy Bee Natural Bug Repellent naturally protects baby and the whole family from biting insects and irritation. Free of DEET and other chemicals., this like spray won’t sting or irritate the skin. It has a pleasant scent of geranium, lemon, cedarwood and citronella oils. Chemical free, non-irritating, hypoallergenic and paraben free. It’s also very convenient for travel, as it’s TSA Travel size approved (3.3 oz/98ml) Just make sure to re-apply, especially if baby is playing in or with water. This naturally great bug spray is only $6.99 .
My daughter loved the water when she was little. Either playing in it, swimming it it, or just running through the sprinklers. At the end of the day she would have what I would call a legit rat’s nest. Fine thin hair tangled and knotted on top of her hair. Do not get caught without a a detangler for these situations as I was. I think I’ve lost a few years of my life from trying to defuse hair and tantrums!
I recommend the Mangle Detangle by Bella B as well. This is a natural detangler that is uniquely formulated to do and exceptional job clearing tangles with minimal effort. Naturally tear free and designed for tear prevention. It’s also made with several organic ingredients to maximize shine and maintain strong, healthy hair! The extra bonus – it’s Hypoallergenic, Paraben Free, Fresh Natural Scent
Mangle Detangle is also a great bargain at only $7.99
