PMA Fresh Summit 2019 Trends To Look For

It’s almost time for the 2019 PMA Fresh Summit and I couldn’t be more excited! It’s been five years since I have attended the Produce Marketing Show and I think I needed the break in between to recover because it’s a DOOZY!

As a plant-based diet fan, I am always looking to see what’s new in the world of food production. Consumers are demanding fresh food and eating less processed products more than ever, and it’s important that this  industry understand, gauge and meet that response.  This year I’ll be looking for new sustainability practices, emerging markets, new food safety practices and finally how technology is now taking on an important role in our food production.

The PMA is not only an energizing event promoting fresh FOOD production, but some heavy hitter talent is also making an appearance this year!

PMA board member and president and CEO of Naturipe Farms, Dwight Ferguson, will moderate the Fresh Summit Forum for the Future discussion with Earvin “Magic” Johnson on Friday, October 18th.

Jan DeLyser, vice president marketing for the California Avocado Commission will moderate the discussion with this year’s Women’s Fresh Perspectives (WFP) Leadership Breakfast keynote speaker, Queen Latifah, as part of the Fresh Summit programming on October 19th.

Another interesting topic covered at the PMA Fresh Summit is Consumer Trends. For decades, U.S. shoppers were loyal to a single store that would fulfill all of their food and beverage needs. Today, they’re far more likely to embrace a variety of retail locations and formats to ensure they get exactly what they want, when they want it. What does this mean for retailers looking to stay one step ahead of consumer trends?
