I’ve been given the opportunity to install and review a Cloud RO (reverse osmosis) water filter system and I could not be more thrilled about it. For a long time I’ve been considering reverse osmosis water systems, but I was worried about finding one that would truly purify my water.
To start, let me preface this by saying please do not drink or cook with your local tap water. You can see what pollutants are in your water by visiting the non-profit environmental working group website and do a search on your zip code. My local tap water in San Diego has 30 contaminants in it! Getting a reverse osmosis system is an investment in your health.
The Cloud RO system boasts NSF certification and claims best-in-class performance results. It’s quickly becoming known as the Mercedes of Reverse Osmosis as it’s a truly complete purified water system. The cost is $749, but is currently on sale ($150 off) for $599. The Cloud RO has three filters, a battery pack, and a remineralizer, which is more than most other systems that typically only have two filters. While you can find cheaper RO systems, they likely won’t offer the same level of filtration as the Cloud RO. The Cloud RO boasts a more advanced filtration process to achieve higher contaminant removal rates (99% Toxin Removal!). They are also a San Diego-based company and the owners feel very accessible and are great at providing information and answering questions. Considering we have been paying about $55 a month for Arrowhead Water Delivery (water sitting in plastic jugs for WHO knows how long), this cleaner pure water system seems like a no-brainer.
Even though the Cloud RO is compact, I opted not to install it under my sink because I already have a lot going on there, including a separate under-sink water heater and a water softener just for my dishwasher. San Diego’s hard water has been wreaking havoc on my appliances for years. If you’re installing this under your sink and have room, the process is going to be even easier. However, check out my process of doing a standalone water station!

To showcase the system’s ability to produce pure, clean alkaline water, I created a dedicated water station next to my stove, which is perfect since I cook a lot. Previously, it was a hassle to use my bottled spring water dispenser for cooking (soups, pasta, rice, and vegetables), so having the clean toxin-free water source directly next to my cooking area is key.
The Cloud RO system removes contaminants like sediment, rust, VOCs, chemical disinfectants, heavy metals, PFAS, pharmaceuticals, bacteria and more. The remineralizer then adds essential minerals back into the purified water, raising the pH level and making the water alkaline.
Alkaline water is water that has a higher pH level than regular water, typically between 8 and 9.5. Some studies show that alkaline water has a number of health studies show that alkaline water has a number of health benefits, including improved hydration and reduced risk of chronic diseases and inflammation.
If you already have a hole next to your main sink faucet, then you’re golden and installation is a cinch. However, if you don’t have that pre-set hole, installation requires drilling, so you may need a special drill bit depending on your counter material. I had help from my handy hubby who built a custom drink station from an upper kitchen cabinet and a piece of pretty wood for the countertop. The cabinet installation was harder than the Cloud RO install! The whole hookup for the system only took about 30 minutes. Cloud RO seriously makes it so easy as the instructions are straightforward, and the parts are clearly labeled. If you’re not comfortable with DIY installation, plumbers or handymen can easily and quickly install the system for you. I highly recommend watching the video that they provide!

Once installed, you’ll need to flush the system by running water through the filters and tank for about an hour. Repeat this flushing process two more times. The system does produce wastewater at a 1:1 ratio (one gallon of wastewater for every gallon of purified water). Most systems out there produce much more waste (like a 3 waste: 1 pure water ratio), so once again the Cloud RO is hitting all the high notes. I’m planning to reuse this wastewater by running the drain line to my garden.
The Cloud RO system also comes with a handy app that reminds you when to change the filters, which typically last about a year. The App also keeps me informed as to the filter lifespan, minerals added to my pure water, alkalinity level and an overall quality rating for my water.
The flow from the Cloud RO system is surprisingly strong! I can fill up my glasses and pots quickly and I noticed the system refills itself seamlessly. It’s also very quiet which is great because my old Spring water dispenser was horribly noisy! I don’t have to worry about losing power and not having fresh water because even in a power outage, the Cloud RO system should still function thanks to the battery backup and your city water pressure.
The MOST important question – So how does Cloud RO water taste?
I was SO apprehensive about trying this because I’ve been drinking Spring Water for years. The Cloud RO purified water tastes amazingly fresh and clean. I’ve actually been drinking more water since the system has been installed and I refresh the app everyday to take a sneak peak of the water quality.
Common Questions:
Is the system made of plastic?
The tank is made of stainless steel on the inside with a rubber bladder inside to maintain pressure. If you’re concerned about the plastic parts, all the plastic parts are BPA-free. As the system sits in covered shaded cabinet, I’m not worried about plastic degradation. PLUS, the Carbon filter takes out any microplastics and PFAS.
What if I don’t want minerals added back in?
No problem – you can sub out that filter for a Carbon filter.
How long do the filters last for?
Depending on usage, the filters should be changed once or twice a year at approximate $200 per replacement cycle. As I’m just using the system with my husband right now, we should only go through one set per year. There is also a water bladder inside the unit that creates pressure – this will have to be replaced about every two years. Again, not a big deal, but just part of the maintenance to get pure drinking water.
Conclusion
I’m excited to have made the switch to reverse osmosis drinking water using the Cloud RO system and will report back on my long-term experience. The Cloud RO install went smoothly, the pure water taste is great and the little nerd in me is obssessed with the app where I can track the health of my RO system and water quality. I feel that the price is completely justified and is a better value than questionable water sitting in plastic. This water simply tastes better and I intend on purchasing one for my vacation home as well since getting bottled water has always been a hassle. I also LOVE that this is a local California based company. The owners feel very approachable and are passionate about making an excellent product. As a growing company with a successful product, you may have to wait a bit for your Cloud RO system to be shipped. Just be mindful when ordering to note the shipping by date. Trust me, it’s WORTH the wait!
