Toosum.com, a Seattle based company, sent me a few samples of their gluten-free oatmeal bars to try. I received Blueberry & Greek Yogurt, Cherry & Plum and Coconut & Banana. All super delicious for adults and kids alike.
They make a great snack, quick breakfast on the run or afterschool pick-me-up. They are only 100 calories and are sweetened with fruit juice. Although dear reader, I just ate all three of the, so I guess that was a total of 300 calories for me. It happens, right?
I do have several friends that are gluten free, and sometimes it’s a challenge to find yummy things to serve as snacks. And, for all you gluten lovers out there, you would never know that these were gluten-free. I promise. They have a nice soft chewy texture, but they wont fall apart. Often store bought snack bars are overloaded with sugar, or dipped in chocolate, which sort of defeats the purpose of having an oat based bar in the first place! The bar does contain cashew butter, which is a subtle nut taste and allows the fruit flavors to come through.
The Toosum bars also have chia seeds added to them for a fun little crunch! It was hard for me to pick a favorite, but if forced to choose I would say the Cherry & Plum was my choice. Toosum uses dried tart cherries to help sweeten this bar! Yum!
