According to the internet, many people abandon their New Year’s resolutions by the second Friday of January. So, Happy Quitters Day! But hear me out – health resolutions can benefit from a gradual rollout in January, with a more focused approach in February.
Here’s why:
-
Decompressing from the Holidays: The holidays can be hectic. From taking down decorations and returning gifts to simply needing quiet time after a flurry of social events, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Adding rigorous health goals to the mix can feel daunting.
- Inspiration Tip: Instead of diving headfirst, use January to explore options. Consider your exercise goals. I’m currently in the “thinking about it” phase regarding jogging. For now, daily walks help me assess my shoe needs and prevent potential running injuries. Take advantage of post-holiday sales to invest in the tools you’ll need.
-
Weather Challenges: January weather can be uninspiring for exercise. Cold climates present obvious obstacles like icy roads and frigid temperatures. Even in milder climates, air quality issues (like post-fire smoke) can hinder outdoor activity.
- Inspiration Tip: Equip your home gym. Invest in an elliptical or treadmill for convenient indoor workouts. If air quality is a concern, consider an air purifier. We use two when outdoor conditions are poor. Pair your indoor workouts with a favorite TV show, podcast, or audiobook to make them more enjoyable.
-
Refrigerator and Pantry Purge: Holiday treats can make it hard to stick to healthy eating habits. It’s hard to stay on a healthy food regimen when there’s a pile of Holiday themed Hershey’s kisses in a jar next to the apples and oranges. Ask me how I know.
- Inspiration Tip: Prioritize healthy food purchases. Stock up on fruits, vegetables, nuts, and legumes. Donate unopened holiday treats to a local food pantry to avoid temptation.

Tools for Better Health:
- Remember that overall health encompasses more than just exercise. It includes nutrition, sleep, and mental well-being.
I’ve included some of my favorite tools for building healthy habits.
The Hume Health Smart Body Pod MonitorÂ
The Hume Smart scale measures 56 different body metrics, so it’s so much more insightful to see body changes. Not only can I see my visceral and subcutaneous fat, but I can see how much muscle I have and even how much per appendage! It also has a bone mass and hydration reading, which has been illuminating.

The Cloud RO (Reverse Osmosis) Water System
Water is essential to health and studies show that drinking water from plastic means we are consuming microplastics – there’s simply no doubt left on this issue. However, municipal water across the country is LESS than desirable, if not filled with toxins. Click here to check out the level of TOXINS in your local community tap water.
The Cloud RO system is SO EASY to install and the app gives you the ability to check in on the water quality at any given time. Not only does it purify water (99% pure after filtering), but it then re-adds healthy minerals back in. I am a water SNOB and would not recommend the Cloud RO system if the water didn’t taste yummy.
It’s also saving me money as I don’t have to buy pricey plastic 5 gallon bottles of Spring Water.
