I’ve been doing a LOT of baking during the pandemic, and after hand tossing pizza dough and kneading dough for olive loaves, I have come full circle to appreaciate my good ol’ bread maker!
This recipe is fairly goof-proof and is a nice weight for sandwich bread. Not to heavy, not too light. I have a Cuisinart Bread Maker, and here’s what I do for the perfect loaf with a little sunflower crunch and herb flavor.
You Will Need:
- Bread Maker
- 3 cups flour
- 1/2 cup wheat germ
- 1/3 cup raw sunflower seeds
- 2 tablespoons good olive oil
- 1 packet dry active yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp oregano
In the bread machine ‘bucket’, add in 1-1/2 cups of warm water + 1 packet of dry active yeast + 1 tsp of sugar. Let it foam up for about 10 minutes.
Now add in 3 cups of flour, 1 tsp of salt (preferably herb salt), 1/2 cup wheat germ, 1 tsp of oregano, 2 tablespoons good olive oil and 1/3 cup raw sunflower seeds.
Press the 2 pound Rapid Bread option.
Let the machine do it’s magic! This bread is really great with fresh herbs, so if you have some on hand, toss them in! Feel free to adjust the sugar/salt ratio as well. I don’t like my bread to be too salty or too sweet, so this combo works for me – but you do you!
I remove the baked loaf from the container, the minute it’s done to let the crust cool and get crunchy.
