I feel like Druzy jewelry came on the fashion scene many years ago, and I’m embarrassed to say I probably saw one advertised on HSN while channel flipping. While they are not semi-precious they are really fascinating. Druse, Drusy (or renamed Druzy to make it even cuter) occurs worldwide, the most common is perhaps quartz druse within voids in chert or agates. Garnet, calcite, dolomite and a variety of minerals may occur as druse coatings.
Some prominent designers started incorporating funky druzy stones into fashion and it’s been a popular jewelry fad for a couple of years now. So much so, that unusual ones are actually getting as pricey as their semi-precious stone step-brothers.
I found this rose gold druzy set in a Sterling silver ring setting at an Estate Sale. These rings can be completely unpredictable and each one is unique. The ring is cut open to expose the rough, yet super sparkly crystalization inside. Often these are set into ring settings, or mounted for earrings in its rough form.
This ring caught my eye because it was not only had brilliant rose and golden colors exploding from the center, but that it had darker cut facets on the sides which is more unusual.
This ring is basically a mullet druzy, except it’s party in the front and business on the back (or sides).
This is a large ring!! It is approximately 1 inch from end to end of the silver setting. It’s also an adjustable ring, but to warn you it’s still large even resized down. With the ring tightened a bit I would guess it’s about a size 9. You can size it up or down, but I would say this ring is best for someone with larger fingers, or likes to wear big jewelry on a pointer finger, etc.
Druzy stones reportedly have healing properties as well, if you’re into that philosophy. The gem calms and soothes a tensed mind making it stress free. The gem is said to draw negative energy (into it’s big shiny open vortex?) and then stabilizes the aura and promotes clear, yet creative thinking.
While I’d like to think that this ring will do all that, I am certain that at the very least it’s large enough to leave a nice big druzy dent in someone’s face should they try and mug you on the street. That helps ease my mind!
