Upgrading Your Backyard BBQ: BLATOMIC Pro vs. BLATOMIC Basic

Upgrading Your Backyard BBQ: BLATOMIC Pro vs. BLATOMIC Basic

When it comes to outdoor cooking, electric smokers have revolutionized how we approach low-and-slow BBQ. The promise is simple: set your temperature, load your wood chips, and let the unit do the heavy lifting while you enjoy your day.

If you are looking at BLATOMIC’s 30-inch lineup, you will notice two main options: the BLATOMIC 30″ Pro (Model: BESFP30S2) at $279 and the BLATOMIC 30″ Basic at $239.99. * Note the prices listed are when this article was published.

Both share the same core foundation: a powerful 1500W heating element, identical digital top controls, 4-rack space totaling 735 sq. in. of cooking area, and a convenient side-loading wood chip system. However, the Pro model adds several key upgrades that dramatically improve visibility, convenience, and patio aesthetics.

Here is an in-depth, side-by-side comparison to help you decide if the ~$39 upgrade is worth it.

Deep-Dive Feature Comparison

1. Build & Finish: Stainless Steel vs. All-Black

  • BLATOMIC Pro ($279): Features a sleek stainless steel front door wrapped around a heavy-duty insulated steel cabinet. It gives your outdoor cooking area a modern, commercial-grade aesthetic that holds up well to the elements. I personally loved the look of this and I think this helps elevate any backyard setup.
  • BLATOMIC Basic ($239.99): Built with a standard all-black powder-coated exterior. While clean and functional, it lacks the high-end look and extra front-door durability of the stainless version. My husband is a realist and said that keeping the glass perfectly clean is a chore, so he actually prefers a unit without a glass window!

2. Monitoring Your Cook: Insulated Glass vs. Solid Door

  • BLATOMIC Pro ($279): Equipped with a heavy-duty, double-pane insulated viewing window. You can watch your ‘smoky bark’ or meal seal develop, monitor smoke density, and check glazes without cracking the door open and losing precious heat or smoke.
  • BLATOMIC Basic ($239.99): Features a solid black metal door. Without a window, you are cooking “blind,” meaning you have to open the unit every time you want a visual check – inevitably extending cook times and dropping cabinet temperatures.

3. Food Temp Monitoring: Integrated Meat Probe

  • BLATOMIC Pro ($279): Comes standard with an integrated smart meat probe that plugs directly into the control port. Internal food temperatures display right on the digital screen, letting you pull food at the exact target doneness. As a tall person, and a dog owner, I prefer ANY thing off the ground to save my back and prevent dog hair from wafting in.
  • BLATOMIC Basic ($239.99): Tracks cabinet air temperature only. If you want to check internal meat doneness, you will need to buy a separate external meat thermometer and run probe wires through the door gasket. For my husband, this is a non-negotiable, so if it had not been included, he’d have to use another separate smart thermostat device – which adds an extra cost on.

4. Ergonomics: “Elevated” in Every Way

  • BLATOMIC Pro ($279): Includes an elevated assembly stand with smooth-rolling wheels. Raising the smoker off the patio surface brings the racks up to a natural, comfortable working height. If you are tall, this saves a tremendous amount of back strain when checking low racks or sliding in heavy trays. Beyond pure ergonomics, the extra height gives the entire unit a genuinely elevated, premium presence on your deck.
  • BLATOMIC Basic ($239.99): Sits low directly on the ground. Tending food, managing bottom racks, or pulling drip pans requires constant bending and crouching unless you set it on a dedicated outdoor table or cart.

Final Verdict: Which Should You Buy?

Pick the BLATOMIC Basic ($239.99) if:

  • You are keeping your purchase as close to $200 as possible.
  • You already own a dedicated wireless meat probe system.
  • You don’t like keeping the glass window clean.
  • You already have a sturdy outdoor bench, cart, or table to place the smoker on.

Upgrade to the BLATOMIC Pro ($279) if:

  • You want the best value for your money: At less than a $40 difference, the Pro gives you a stainless steel finish, a double-pane viewing window, an integrated meat probe, and a built-in rolling stand. Buying a separate meat thermometer and outdoor cart to match these features would easily cost far more than the $39 price difference.
