I’ll be honest — I wasn’t specifically looking for hurricane-proof patio furniture when I bought these chairs. I was just looking for something that looked nice, held up outdoors, and wouldn’t fall apart after a season in the Florida sun. If you weren’t following the news in late September 2022, Hurricane Ian made landfall as a Category 4 storm with maximum sustained winds of around 150 mph. It caused catastrophic flooding and wind damage across Southwest Florida, becoming one of the deadliest and most destructive hurricanes ever to hit the United States. Entire communities were wiped out. Homes that had stood for decades were reduced to slabs. Cars were swept away. Trees were uprooted like they were nothing.
So when I say Ian “obliterated everything” at our Florida house, I am not exaggerating for the sake of a dramatic review. That storm was the real deal. Which makes what happened to our Adirondack chairs all the more remarkable.

After going through this experience, I’ve thought a lot more about what makes outdoor furniture worth buying in a climate like Florida’s. A few things stand out:
- Material matters. Furniture made from HDPE (high-density polyethylene) or similar weather-resistant materials holds up far better than wood or thin metal in humid, sunny climates. It doesn’t absorb water, doesn’t splinter, and resists UV fading.
- Weight is a feature. As I mentioned, heavier furniture stays where you put it — and that matters both day-to-day and during storms.
- Low maintenance is non-negotiable. If keeping your outdoor furniture looking good requires hours of sanding, sealing, or painting each season, it’s not the right choice for Florida. You want something you can wipe down and walk away from.

These are a winner.
I went into this purchase just looking for chairs that would look nice on the patio. I ended up with chairs that survived a Category 4 hurricane, years of Florida sun, and everything in between — and still look like I just bought them. That is not something I can say about most outdoor furniture I’ve owned.
If you’re looking for Adirondack chairs that can handle real outdoor conditions — including, apparently, one of the worst Atlantic hurricanes in recorded history — the MXIMU Adirondack chairs are worth serious consideration. They’re heavy enough to stay put, durable enough to look great season after season, and easy enough to maintain that you’re not spending your weekends on upkeep.
