I attend many natural product expos and events and receive herbal or homeopathic remedies to try. It’s nice because I can personally test out different products and make recommendations based on my own real experience. Interestingly enough, when my friends and readers ask about different natural supplements to take, sleep aids and probiotics are the top two supplements of interest. Pain and anti-aging products are a close third. However, it’s no wonder we all want and need great sleep. Exhaustion can make a day seem endlessly miserable, full of mistakes, or worse accident prone.
Here are a few of my favorite natural sleep aids that work best for me, as they really help me fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer without that morning sluggish hangover feeling.
Utzy’s Naturals utzzz’s Stay Asleep
The first natural sleep aid that I find is gentle, yet effective, is Utzy’s Naturals ‘Stay Asleep’.
The Utzy Sleep formula is my go-to when I really NEED to go to sleep because I have something important to do in the morning. Stay Asleep delivers PharmaGABA® and Suntheanine®, patented natural ingredients designed to help your brain to relax into deep, restorative sleep. The Utzy formula is also completely non-habit forming, so you can take it when you need a little help. Stay Asleep is a herbal sleep supplement made with safe, natural, scientifically backed ingredients that will promote restful sleep without the side effects of harsh chemical alternatives.
Sleep Roll-on Essential Oils
Art Naturals Sleep Roll-On Essential Oil is calming blend of Lavender, Sweet Orange, and Rosemary essential oils.
I use this almost every single night. Not only does this sleep aromatherapy combination smell great, but it instantly relaxes me. My brain enjoys pleasant scents, and I find that drifting off to sleep with a happy brain is a great way to get some z’s. It’s also a MUST while traveling. I have been in SO many hotel rooms that just smell ‘off’, that I’ll actually have a hard time sleeping if I smell odors. ie, evidence of a pet in the room, overuse of Lysol, mold, cigarette smoke..you name it. Squash any stinky odors by applying to the skin per instructions, and also adding a little dab to the pillowcase. It’s magical!
Ashwagandha
Stress is an awful human condition. We all get it, and it manifests is many forms. We can be mentally stressed, physically stressed and sometimes chemically stressed from a bad diet or excessive habits. Himalaya Organic Ashwagandha root extract provides natural plant-based stress relief and greater, sustained energy levels without stimulating the heart. It also maintains normal levels of cortisol by supporting the adrenal glands.
Ashwagandha can help your body relax from any type of stress and allow your body to find a restful state faster. When you’re under stress, your adrenals become depleted impacting your immune and digestive systems and impacting your sleep patterns. So, you feel tired, yet can’t sleep at night. Ashwagandha is an Ayurvedic herb that can help you feel rested, energized and ready to take on the day. It’s simply an amazing adaptogen. I love Wild Harvest’s organic and vegetarian capsule that is made in the U.S.A. (SO many capsules are now made overseas!) Do your homework and do your body some good with Wild Harvest’s Ashwagandha.
CBD Oil
First, let’s just get this out of the way. CBD Oil is NOT pot and it doesn’t make you high. Now that we’ve established that….if I’ve gone to a particularly brutal pilates class, or perhaps spent the day hunched over gardening and my body is racked with pain, CBD Oil is my go-to natural remedy. I will take the recommended dosage (drops) when I get in bed and start reading. After about 20 minutes, I’ll drift off to sleep and often have more restful sleep without muscle soreness waking me up. CBD Oil is gentle and doesn’t upset my tummy like a Tylenol or Alleve sitting in my stomach like a lead brick.
PLUS CBD Oil is one of my favorites as they produce a quality consistent product and they make many different forms! I personally LOVE the peppermint spray before bed, but they also make soft gels, drops, gummies and there’s even a balm that is excellent on sore muscles. Want to learn more about CBD? Here’s a great info resource.
