Managing IBS While Traveling

Managing IBS While Traveling

This post is sponsored by Holigos but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

I love traveling, but managing my irritable bowel syndrome while on the road can be a chore. With odd eating schedules and new foods and treats, my system can get out of whack quickly and I often feel bloated and having stomach aches.

In speaking with my friends, I’m not alone in my digestive woes. Up to 15 % of the population suffers from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). IBS symptoms may include diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain and bloating. These symptoms sadly can ruin travel, as instead of walking around exploring what a town has to offer, I’m hunched over in a room feeling uncomfortable, or stressed out that my symptoms may get worse!

In an attempt to better manage my gut microbiome (or the good gut bacteria in my intestines), I brought along Holigos™ IBS on my recent trip to London, England.

I started taking the flavorless Holigos™ IBS powder a few days before my trip and continued on daily.

The packets are super convenient, as each one is a single serving and they can be mixed into any drink or food.  If I took a packet in the morning, I would include it in a nice cup of coffee. In the evening, I simply added a packet to a cup of water or juice before bed.

I did experience a little bloating the first two days of taking it, but I was already prepared for that as the packaging said it can take some time for the digestive system adjusts to Holigos™ IBS. However, I felt great during my travels, and to me that’s a game changer. London is a huge and busy city with lots to see. Often it was easier to just walk to attractions vs. figure out the bus schedule, so we would walk about five to eight miles a day! All of the parks were bursting with Spring flowers, so we didn’t mind taking a longer, yet scenic path. Why not? I was feeling great!

It was so great to feel comfortable and be able to enjoy the sights and not have to stress out about my intestinal health. Here’s a quick video from my recent trip!

So What is Holigos™ IBS?

Holigos™ IBS is a new, non-prescription product formulated with Human-Natural Oligosaccharides (HNOs). It is a medical food clinically proven to help people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) nutritionally manage common IBS symptoms including diarrhea, constipation, bloating and abdominal pain.=

Human-Natural Oligosaccharides are nutrients unique to the human body as they are similar to those found in the protective lining of the digestive tract and identical in structure to those found in mother’s milk. Hence, our bodies themselves produce these unique compounds which are critical for digestive health. Mothers produce them in their milk in the form of human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) to give their babies the best start in life. The evidence available shows that HNOs do the same for adults as they do for babies. They nourish and support our intestinal barrier by stimulating the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut. This process helps build strong intestinal barriers and regulate the immune system as well as promote overall digestive and immune health.

HNOs and their Main benefits:

  • Improving the gut microbiome
  • Strengthen the intestinal barrier
  • Creating a balanced immune system

An unbalanced immune system can lead to bowel disturbances, stomach pain and may even disrupt the gut microbiome itself. HNOs nourish our intestinal barrier and support the production of good bacteria. This helps to reduce stress on the immune system and provides it with vital nutrients.

I am also confident in Holigos IBS because the ingredients are certified as safe by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In a recent study, more than 85% of patients in a recently completed clinical trial in the US had clinically significant improvement in IBS symptoms. And, as I said, it absolutely worked wonders for me, and I tested it out in traveling conditions that would often spell trouble for me!

Not only did I not feel bloated, but I was actually regular on the trip which is really a very rare thing to happen.
